What does the world map show and why secular?

I don't know and guess visitors are the same. Why the world map and what do the red bits mean?

I don't like or understand the word secular

Secular States

The red bits show those nation states that are not secular. The government of those states is influenced by religion.

It's not totally clear cut. For example, the UK is by and large secular but it still retains some non-elected clergy in the Lords, who do in some cases have influence over matters.
